Superette's Bench Thigh-vertising

DDB New Zealand came up with this hilarious campaign for Superette, in which benches at bus stops, malls, and parks (in areas where the most fashionable girls hang out) contain an indented plate with the words "Short shorts on sale Superette."

Now I'm not sure if the actual imprints on the backs of girls' legs would draw much business, but press and word of mouth just might.

Very creative idea!

Anaesthesia Lingerie's Animals

So this is not only the second time that I've discussed an Anaesthesia Lingerie campaign by Nikotin, but also the second time their campaign has left me in utter confusion. (Previous campaign here)

Are the ads showing the reactions these animals had to seeing the underwear for the first time? And if so, why on earth are they animals?

Can anyone else shed some light?

Dead Island's Trailer

Sitting in my boyfriend's living room last week, I noticed him watching a video that immediately caught my attention.

To my surprise, it was for a video game. Dead Island (for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and Microsoft Windows) is a zombie game, with an ad that makes it look like some sort of crazy cool movie (that I would definitely go see). Check out the trailer, it's definitely worth a watch.

Mercedes Benz' Brain

So I've got mixed feelings about these stunning Mercedes Benz ads by Shalmor Avnon Amichay/Y&R Interactive Tel Aviv, Israel.

The ads show a brain, with the left side being a sketch and the right side being colorful and interesting. Each side has a description of what that side of the brain does. Mercedes' logo is on the right side with the tagline "The best or nothing."

These ads are brilliant in appearance with absolutely amazing art direction. They not only immediately caught my attention but I just had to know what they were for.

From an idea perspective, however, I wonder if these ads are really going to help sell a car. While it's an interesting concept, I don't see the Mercedes brand as being extremely creative, and this ad could really be for anything if you just whipped another logo on it.

What do you think?

Volkswagen's "Beetle"

So Mini Darth Vader may be going viral, but don't forget about Volkwagen's other great ad of the Super Bowl.

As if Ram Jam's Black Betty wasn't enough of an attention grabber, this ad is visually appealing too. In it, we we see a beetle (as in the bug) racing through his habitat - shocking other bugs with his lightning speed. He finally jumps through to a field of dandelions, and in a smooth transition we see just an outline of a Beetle (this time, as in the car). While watching, try to notice the little details too (e.g. the beetle has racing stripes).

A car commercial without any cars that still excites as if it did have 'em.. fancy that.

Volkswagen's "The Force"

This viral spot by Deutsch USA has been found by Roy Morgan Research to be the consumer favorite of the Super Bowl ads this year.

It certainly is the most adorable.

A mini Darth Vader goes all around his house and just can't seem to find the force. But when Dad comes home, something happens. Or does it?

Camaro's "Miss Evelyn"

Alright - let's talk Super Bowl.

During last night's game, 3 ads stood out the most to me:
1. Chevy Camaro's "Miss Evelyn"
2. Volkswagen's "Beetle"
3. Volkwagen's "The Force"

So Miss Evelyn. This ad, by Goodby, Silverstein & Partners is unique because it plays off of the creative process of making an ad.

Two guys are trying to figure out what their Camaro spot should feature - and as you're hearing their voices, you're seeing their ideas come to life. The car starts in the desert, dodges mirrors, a hot woman is driving, she's suddenly in the city being chased by bad guys, and it goes on.. until she pulls up to her unexpected job and the official voiceover starts. Very cute.

Oh - and since I figure someone will ask - her name is Angelina Vitale.

Enjoy!

Caribou Coffee's "Hot 'n wholesome"

For those of you who take the bus, you know how awful it can be standing around in the cold hoping it'll be on time. Well Colle+McVoy have bus riders in Minneapolis covered.

This awesome outdoor ad for hot food from Caribou Coffee turns bus shelters into ovens, with everything from the time to the turn dials to actual working heaters.

Mini Hearing Aid's "Said ___, Heard ___"

So this is a pretty cute campaign idea by Monday in Bangkok for Mini's hearing aids.

The first features a duck, then all the things the word duck could be confused with. The second is the same but with a dog. The headlines are "Said 'duck.' Heard 'duck.'" and "Said 'dog.' Heard 'dog.'"

It's kind of fun to figure out what each picture is. Good concept and interesting art direction. Click to see them larger.

Oliver Jewellery's "Cash Man"

Any Toronto-nians out there will likely know what I mean when I say I want to change the channel every time an Oliver Jewellery commercial comes on the air.

Well this one has been around since 2008, and it defines the ugly of advertising.

Oliver is the "cash man" and he'll "give you money for your gold, oh yeah." Or at least that's what he sings while he dances around with four girls that I hope didn't include this on their resume.

It's got 122,117 views on YouTube (as of 10:08EST on 1/11/11) - but is this because it's a total joke of an ad? Probably. Will it get him much business? Probably not.

Android's "Wake Up"

Hey iPhone users.

Remember on January 1st and 2nd when the iPhone alarm glitched? Your alarm didn't go off, you were late, and it sucked?

Well Android has a print ad response to that, done by McCann Istanbul.

I adore the simplicity of this ad. And it's pretty clear who it's targeted to. "Wake up. Android. Created and shared by Google."

Getty Images' "Feed Your Imagination"

Back in about 2000, I used Getty Images for pretty much every project. But to be honest, and we all know I'm pretty honest here, I'd completely forgotten about Getty until I saw these spots by Shalmor Avnon Amichay Y&R Interactive.

These 3 television spots are pretty great - they're visually appealing, creative and whimsical.. and I think you should check them out.

SAA/Y&R animates buildings turning into dinosaurs, roses turning into bridges, jellyfish turning into oranges and more -- then shows you what images from Getty Images made these animations. The headline? "Feed your imagination."

Nicely done.

Dante's Inferno "To Hell and Back"

So we all know, or have at least heard of, Dante's Inferno, the story of Dante and his guide Virgil and their journey through the nine circles of hell. Well of course a video game company had to bank on this right? And so we get EA's game Dante's Inferno, which had quite the ad campaign over the last little while. Rather than reiterate what AdFreak has touched on so well, I think you should check out their article for more information on the game and the campaign, which - if you love advertising - is quite interesting!:
